From the "man with three staves" to the "Fisher King"
In the original draft, Eliot crossed out the "man with three staves," and wrote the "Fisher King"(V. Eliot 9). However, in his final draft he still chooses to have the text read "the man with three staves" (Eliot 51). Instead of explicitly stating the poem's subject, Eliot would rather imply the story of the Fisher King and have his audience parse out his meaning.
