"Over endless plains, stumbling in cracked earth..."
The first draft of this line read "Over Polish plains..."(V. Eliot 75) thus giving a real location. The word "Polish" was crossed out by Pound, and Eliot kept this change. His intent was probably to convey the fact that the waste land has no real location, it only exists in the mind.
