A translation of "Nam Sibyllam..."
For with my own eyes I saw the Sibyl hanging in a bottle, and when
the young boys asked her, 'Sibyl, what do you want?', she replied, 'I
want to die' .
This quote comes from Roman satire writer Petronius, appearing in his story of the Cumaean Sibyl. She was loved by Apollo, and when he said that he would grant whatever she asked for, she asked for eternal life. However, she forgot to ask for everlasting youth in addition to immortality.
